During 2006, I decided to become involved with the local football team, Melbourne Victory. It was the first year of the new A-league and aside from the entertainment value there was the promise of new friends.
I was quickly converted into a hard, standard-bearing, chanting football hooligan.
It was a fun season and I travelled to Adelaide to watch one of the away matches. The victory took both the premiership and the championship that season.
Ultimately what I was really looking for never eventuated and other issues, work and health got the better of me. I'll always enjoy a good match though.
Towards the end of the season I participated in a charity auction. Up for grabs was this autographed football, signed by the victory squad.
