If you're really interested in finding out more about me, check out my Digital Library project. The contents and structure of the DPL are a reasonable reflection of my interests and personality.
My real passion is motorcycling. I bought my latest ride, a 2004 CBR600RR (now affectionately known as 'Sideways') in July 2008 after avoiding a potentially more painful encounter with a lane-changing car on the 'lil CBF.
As with so many deep relationships we have our ups and downs! My first ride-day ever (25 April 2007) ended early after I came off. Fortunately both bike and I escaped without too much damage and many thanks to Chairman for helping put bike back on road in the days after. Since then I've learnt a few things too! In July I did a short ride down the Great Ocean Road to Lorne. More recently I went through the Reefton Spur. My mother also came down from Queensland to see Melbourne for a few days - we managed to get some quite good shots of myself and the bike. Last weekend (16 December 2007) I went for a ride with a mate through some of the winding mountain twisties in the Yarra Valley area. Over the Christmas/New Year period 2007-2008, I completed a massive ride from Melbourne to Toowoomba. Immediately following that, I went on a couple of short rides, including a trip to Mount Bulla.
In my spare time I like to chat and spend time with good friends, either online or in person.
I like to listen to various types of music, some more than others. Some of the stuff I enjoy most these days includes; Manowar, The Corrs, Bob Dylan, Dire Straits, Fluke and Gwendal. Sometimes there's just a particular song I really like, such as Yer So Bad by Tom Petty, Lose Yourself by Eminem, or Something to Believe In by The Bangles. And there's more than a handful of late 80s/early 90s hits that I enjoy.
And I'm a casual sci-fi fan; more sci-fi than fantasy. I enjoy most Doctor Who stories. There is a scale model of the blue police box used in Doctor Who sitting on my shelf at home - a card and glue construction that took me three days to make!
My day job consists of co-ordinating the technical efforts of our development team; translating higher-level designs in to a solid, well architected and cohesive whole (well that's the intent anyway...); writing, maintaining, designing and documenting software for the contract logistics division of Toll Group. I also provide technical training sessions to our team and our developers.
I'm a Unicef Global Parent contributing a small amount each month to hopefully make the lives of many children a little happier and more enjoyable - the way it should be. I also support Friends of the Earth and the Red Cross on a monthly basis. I make ad-hoc contributions to GetUp! a forward thinking Australian political organisation; hopefully helping to tame our politicians.
